Our NPO is registered as the NS BOMELA foundation and based in Bloemfontein, Free State Province and Colesberg in the Northern Cape. We are registered in terms of the Company Laws of the Republic of South Africa as a non-profit organization and also registered with the Department of Social Development in the Free State and the Northern Cape.

CORE ACTIVITIES
Gender-based violence is often underreported due to the barriers victims face at police stations, from negligence and mishandling to deliberate loopholes that hinder justice. Our NPO is committed to holding authorities accountable, supporting victims, and ensuring that every case is treated with the seriousness it deserves.
Underreporting
Many a times the statistics in terms of the gender-based violence cases is distorted because of the low number of reporting as a result of the experiences victims encounter at police stations when reporting these matters.
Mishandling/Negligence
Victims often are subjects of ridicule and statements are taken by incompetent and unwilling police officials or deliberately statements are taken with loopholes in order to set up the acquittal at that point.
Accountability
The idea of this NPO is to curb these occurrences and reduce the number of acquittals that would encourage the reporting of these cases.
PROJECTS
Our approach leads to a healthy dialogue program between the perpetrator and the victim of crime, educate the police on critical aspects they ought to be emphasizing on when receiving the victim at the police station and the elements of the crime that is committed that are to be properly captured in the victim’s statement and the witness statements.
The credibility of this initial intervention in statement-taking becomes important in the conduct of the criminal prosecution at Court and the prosecutor would proceed with a credibly investigated matter at Court and this would reduce the number of cases that are thrown out of Court without being tried for lack of evidence and/or poor investigation.
OUR PARTNERS
The NPO considers the SAPS, Department of Social Development and the Department of Justice as critical and strategic partners insofar as the reporting, investigation and the prosecution of the gender-based violence cases are concerned. Business is a critical and a strategic stakeholder because those who are affected either as victims or as a perpetrators are in one way or the other employees.
This impacts on the business operations of any business because once there is a matter of this nature somebody is bound not to go to work either because they are at hospital or in a place of safety or they are arrested for the infraction, either way business suffers, therefore it is in the interest of business that it supports this program financially so that the number of days of absenteeism by people affected is reduced.
The NPO relies on sponsorship and donations in order to sustain this program and make it a success. We also extend our services to providing food parcels, soup kitchen, sanitary towels to the less fortunate.
